HERE'S SOME OF MY WRITTEN WORK

I had the opportunity to drive to the tiny eastern Colorado town of Karval to get a firsthand look at a tiny bird that might bring tourism to an area that needs it. Along the way, I learned this story really starts with a conservative rancher and an unlikely partnership with some wildlife biologists.

I spent a month living in the gambling town of Cripple Creek to cover the trial of the man now convicted of murdering Colorado mother Kelsey Berreth. It captured headlines across the country, and I was proud of how our team was able to cover the community's loss in a sensitive but thorough way.

I think 2020 was rough for all of us, and for me, the reality show happening at a Colorado eagle's nest was really the saving grace. It involved everything from a stolen love to a romance that in the end, you almost had to root for.

So for a while, my biggest claim to fame was writing about doing the Beyonce water gallon challenge (this was before TikTok). This article got hundreds of thousands of viewers, and engagement on social media from across the country.

Remember when this is what we were talking about before COVID? I made dozens of phone calls and scoured hundreds of pages of FAA documents to try and narrow down who could be responsible for Colorado's mystery drones.

saguache_edited.jpg

Saguache is one of the most fascinating towns I've visited in Colorado. Given that it's right off US 285, it was shocking to me that it hasn't taken off yet, but it was cool to see this treasure before it becomes the destination it deserves to be.

14er_signs_edited.jpg

This article started out with a Reddit post from a guy who was absolutely fed up with picking up the cardboard signs people carry to the summit of 14ers for Instagram. I later learned people leave even worse things on these beautiful places.

Masks became a very contentious issue in 2020, and perhaps will be some of the symbols of the pandemic. I asked our medical expert to respond to Facebook comments in hopes of quelling misinformation in what would be one of the most-read articles of the year.

OK ... so this was actually the most-read article of 2020, and our most shared Facebook post. Was it the hardest hitting news? No. Did it bring a smile to people's faces and make them want to share? Yes.

I have a confession to make: I think Greeley is as much of a Colorado destination as the mountain towns. Here's a look at my tour of this underappreciated city that includes amazing breweries and an actual monster factory.

five_points.jpg

Five Points used to be known as the "Harlem of the West," and it's also now one of the most rapidly-gentrifying neighborhoods in Denver. I used interactive sliders to tell the story of this community's past and future.

dia.jpg

For DIA's 25th anniversary, I decided to get a little weird and spend 12 hours in the airport, since its PR team is always touting the fun things to do there. Lots of what I did was guided by our viewers, and this is my story.

INTERACTIVE MEDIA

I received an Edward R. Murrow award for new media for the below graphic which shows all of the people a 9Wants to Know investigation found died while being restrained face down by officers.

SOCIAL MEDIA

Social media isn't just about promotion. I like to use it to tell a story, and engage our audience and how exactly what our brand is all about. Here are some examples of work I've done on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

MEET THE PEOPLE OF THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE TRAIL

This was part of an Emmy-nominated project on new media

I collaborated with a photojournalist to use Instagram to tell the stories of the people who hiked the Continental Divide Trail. This helped push people to our TV special, and was also a web extra.

COLORADO VALENTINE'S

Because sometimes, you just want to have fun

I built Colorado-specific Valentines that our viewers shared hundreds of times on Facebook. To be honest, I was most proud of the Casa Bonita joke.

WHAT'S GOING ON WITH ROBERT FELDMAN?

This Twitter thread was used to promote a months-long investigation

I used multiple Twitter threads to promote an investigative piece looking at how a murder suspect on house arrest has been able to go on long bike rides.
